What are your choices in managing others?

Despite several decades worth of books, video in its various incarnations, training packages, experts and assorted foot-in-the-door consultants; the task of managing others in a way that exploits their ability to convert their potential into performance remains an ongoing challenge. Maybe part of the challenge is the desire to find – or peddle – the one size fits all answer, the single management posture that does the job. Here’s another option – we could work on our ability to assess management situations and use this assessment as part of thinking on our feet in order to compose a response that has a chance of being appropriate for the person you are working with and the task in hand.
