brian woodall

Brian has over twenty five years experience in line management, leadership and consultancy having worked in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. He has held management roles in BT, The Costain Group, Management Training Partnership and Brathay.

He began his career as a serving officer in the Metropolitan Police having first graduated in Management and Business.

On leaving Costain in 1992, Brian moved into consultancy with Management Training Partnership and worked in senior and middle management development with organisations such as Unilever, BP, Axa, Deliotte’s and BDO Stoy Hayward. Brian took on a broader range of responsibilities including key account management and business development roles as an Associate Director of MTP.

With a strong desire to live in the Lake District, Brian joined a not-for profit people development consultancy, Brathay, in 1998. Not long after joining Brathay he was asked to lead the Corporate Consultancy team with full budget and staff responsibility for an organisation that has an illustrious history in experiential leadership and team development, leading a team of 16 full-time and twenty Associate Consultants.

He believes in leading from the front and so also maintained a full and active client portfolio with organisations such as McKinsey, HBoS, Lancashire County Council, Bradford and Bingley, Lancaster University, Burger King and Shell. From there he progressed to Client Service Director.

Brian remains committed to business development through people development. Through a number of Associate relationships, Brian is currently engaged on a wide range of assignments with organisations such as: Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC, Gloucester College, Johnson Controls, Studsvik UK, Specsavers, Astra Zeneca, Hiscox, BP, and Fujitsu. This also includes bid support work for PFI contracts with organisations such as BAM Construction, Skanska and React Engineering.

Over recent years, Brian has developed his portfolio to work in relationship development in supply chain management. This has focused on supplier engagement strategies and maximising supplier contribution. He is currently engaged with a major supplier of nuclear de-contamination services in the establishment of 15 year partnership agreements based on collaborative rather than price competitive strategies. This includes coaching for significant behaviour change at senior project management level with multi-organisational teams together with developing negotiation skills.

Brian has significant talent development, coaching and change management experience with clients such as McKinsey, BAM, Young White Green, NIS-NSG, RBS and Aviva.

Primarily through his work in supply chain management, Brian has had the opportunity to travel extensively with clients including assignments in Abu Dhabi, Azerbaijan, Angola, Canada, the USA, Egypt, Oman and a number of European countries.

When not engaged with clients, Brian is to be found cycling round the lanes of Cumbria, walking the hills in Scotland and playing folk fiddle with his Ceilidh Band, Rascal Fayre.

Brian is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and an Affiliate of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
